Planning 101 (a.k.a Planning For Dummies)

Written by Hero on 7/08/2009 12:55:00 AM

So you are planning on something but you don't know where to start? It's okay. Really. You just need to be aware of a few pointers which I will coyly call "the common criteria of planning". Here is how it goes..
  1. Do not plan for something that has the potential of getting out of your hands. This is very important. For example, you shouldn't plan to play badminton if you are and will be on your own. It will be very difficult and to some, f**king crazy as well. Start planning for a badminton game only when you are sure the other person is there for you and that he or she will be coming.
  2. Do not plan for positions if you don't have the necessary people for it. This is simple. Look at it this way. If you plan to marry someone and you wish to throw in a lavish kenduri/walimah for that someone, please.. please.. make sure that you have all the people you will need for it; for a kenduri kahwin is no small feat. You cannot just plan for 5 dishwashers (actual persons), 5 for dish preparation and 4 ushers and whatnot and all the while, there's only 3 or 4 of you! More importantly, you shouldn't arbitrarily count in all your neighbours without any regards to their commitments. They are not living their lives, standing by for your needs, you know? Of course they will eventually come to the rescue as you're gasping for air in the midst of an uncontrollable workloads.. but don't you think you should've thought of that like IN THE VERY BEGINNING?
  3. Do not plan, period, if you have been facing the problems as per outlined in the first two pointers, time and time again. Apparently, you are no planner. Go and do something else like growing a tree, a hernia or a beard. That would be better for everybody else (but lawyers will say.. "hmm.. that depends..") :p. And please spare others from lines like, "we are all in this together" or "sepakat membawa berkat" unless you can be sure that the contributions will be flowing BACK AND FORTH. A silly example would be like saying, "tolong la sama-sama uruskan kenduri anak saya ni, nanti kami tolong masa kenduri anak awak pula.." to a neighbour who is without heir nor heiress. Kenduri apa? Kenduri arwah? Helping others is not an issue but the argument is and it is such a low class one.
Happy planning! You dummy you..

I totally agree with you especially on point no 3.
The person who thought up the saying "those who fail to plan, plan to fail" should have read this entry first before coyly coming up with such sayings! ;P
